This year’s KUMA FY doctors’ welcome event took place at The Perseverance Pub in London on 30th August. The event brought together doctors from across England and provided an opportunity to network, share career interests, and connect with peers. It was a lively and sociable gathering with pizza and drinks provided, giving everyone the chance to settle in, share stories, and build new connections outside of the hospital setting.

Beginning life as a newly qualified doctor can be stressful and daunting, as you step outside the bubble and start making your own decisions. Starting anew in an unfamiliar area is also a situation that many people face, as they are relocated to cities and towns across the UK for training. KUMA strives to provide support and social networks for all our colleagues so that the journey becomes smoother and feels less isolating.
We also had a presentation session led by our current foundation doctors, covering everything from building a portfolio to practical tips on adjusting to life as a new FY doctor. Many took the opportunity to exchange advice and experiences, while others simply enjoyed the chance to relax after a busy few weeks of work. For new members of the KUMA community, we hope that they were able to learn more about the support available, and feel part of a wider group of peers who understand the challenges and rewards of the early years in medicine.
