On 10th May 2025, the Korean UK Medical Association (KUMA) proudly hosted its 10th Annual Health Awareness Day at the New Malden Methodist Church. This milestone event marked a decade of dedicated service to enhancing the health and well-being of the Korean community in the UK. Since its establishment, this initiative has brought together Korean healthcare professionals nationwide in a collective effort to improve healthcare accessibility and literacy amongst the Korean community.

제10회 ‘건강의 날 (Health Awareness Day)’ 행사를 성공적으로 개최했습니다. 올해로 10주년을 맞이한 이번 행사는 영국 내 한인 커뮤니티의 건강 증진과 복지 향상을 위한 KUMA의 지속적인 노력과 봉사를 기념하는 뜻깊은 자리였는데요.

The event focused on addressing health topics that are often sensitive or challenging for patients to discuss openly. Distinguished medical professionals delivered insightful presentations on subjects including benign prostatic hyperplasia, menopausal symptoms, and dementia. Additionally, a comprehensive overview of the National Health Service (NHS) was provided, aimed at helping attendees better understand how to navigate and access healthcare services in the UK. The final presentation, led by the Korean UK Nurses Association (KUNA), offered practical guidance on managing and preventing common health conditions such as high cholesterol, hypertension, and diabetes.
이날 행사에는 영국 각지에서 활동 중인 한인 의료 전문가들이 한자리에 모여, 의료 접근성과 건강 정보에 대한 이해도를 높이고자 다채로운 강연과 상담 프로그램을 마련했습니다. 특히 환자들이 쉽게 말하지 못하는 민감한 주제를 중심으로, ▲전립선 비대증 ▲폐경기 증상 ▲치매 등에 대한 전문 강연이 진행됐습니다. 더불어 국민보건서비스(NHS)의 구조와 이용 방법에 대한 설명도 제공되어, 참가자들의 실질적인 이해를 도왔습니다. 마지막 순서로는 재영한인간호사협회 (KUNA)가 준비한 고지혈증, 고혈압, 당뇨병 등 흔한 만성질환의 예방 및 관리법에 대해 실질적인 정보를 제공해 큰 호응을 얻었답니다.

Following the lectures, a series of interactive health check-up stations were made available to encourage direct community engagement. These included health screenings, personalised medication reviews, pain management consultations, and Q&A sessions. These stations were organised through the collaborative efforts of professionals from various organisations, including KUNA, and the Korean UK Pharmaceutical Association (KUPharm). This year, we were also joined by the Korean-UK Students’ Association (KUMAS) providing advice and guidance for prospective medical students.
강연 후에는 다양한 체험형 건강 부스가 많은 참가자들에게 인기를 끌었습니다. 또 간단한 건강 검진, 처방전 상담, 통증 상단, 질의응답 세션 등이 마련되어 지역 주민들과의 직접적인 소통도 가질 수 있는 시간이였습니다. KUNA와 더불어 재영한인약학인협회 (KUPharm), 재영한인의대생연합 (KUMAS) 등이 참여해주셔서 더 풍부한 전문성과 다양성이 더해졌습니다. 특히 KUMAS는 의대 진학 상담을 진행하며 어린 연령대 친구들 그리고 부모님들에게 많은 관심을 받았습니다.

As we reflect on KUMA’s 10th Health Awareness Day, we are reminded of the compassion, reassurance, and sense of solidarity that filled the venue. The significance of this initiative lies not only in the services provided but also in the enduring spirit of collaboration among healthcare professionals committed to supporting the Korean community. Our ongoing efforts aim to continue to inspire, empower, and reinforce the foundation of a healthier and more connected Korean community within the UK.
올해로 10주년을 맞이한 ‘건강의 날’은 의료 서비스 제공을 넘어 타국 생활에 서로가 공감할 수 있는 따뜻한 시간을 나눌 수 있는 자리가 되었습니다.
한인사회가 모두 함께 나아 갈 수 있도록 협력을 바탕으로 한인 커뮤니티의 건강한 미래를 위한 노력이 지속될 예정입니다. 저희 재영한인 의사협회는 앞으로의 활동을 통해 더 많은 이들에게 도움을 줄 수 있는 협회로 성장하기 위해 더더욱 노력 해보겠습니다!
