Health Awareness Day
22 April 2023
This year for KUMA’s annual community outreach event we were joined by consultants from Oculoplastics, Orthopaedic Surgery, Stroke medicine and General Practice to deliver talks, followed by booths manned by doctor and medical student volunteers including Diabetes, BMI, Blood Pressure and more.
On 22nd April 2023, KUMA hosted its 8th Annual Health Awareness Day at the Korean Culture and Arts Centre in New Malden, Greater London. Aimed at promoting general well-being and a better understanding of health among the local Korean community, the event boasted a line-up of distinguished guest speakers, including medical specialists from various fields and the vice-consul from the South Korean Embassy in the UK. This year we marked a special milestone as we celebrated the 10th Anniversary of KUMA.
Insightful talks were given on the common health issues encountered by the elderly population such as hypertension, dementia, ocular/eyelid disease and arthritis delivered by Korean consultants in Oculoplastics, Orthopaedic Surgery, Stroke Medicine and General Pracworking in the NHS. This was followed by a Q&A session, allowing attendees to interact with the expert speakers.
The afternoon concluded with general health booths including Diabetes, BMI, Blood Pressure and more. We were joined by an overwhelming number of volunteers ranging from medical students to doctors of various grades and specialties. This year we also welcomed our dental colleagues who offered their expertise.
Overall, the event was warmly welcomed, and we would like to express our gratitude to all volunteers and guest speakers who have contributed to making this event a success.
The Health Awareness Day wrapped up with a barbeque social that warmly welcomed all the volunteers and medical students. Once again, this event served as a delightful conclusion to an impactful and heartwarming day.
